Plan

·      Who: People who work service jobs while going to school

·      What: service-oriented jobs while going to school, full or part time

·      Why are you working?:  expendable income, books, transport, want a degree/career/better job in the end, supporting children, etc.

·      Where: WCC

·      When: weekends (Fri, Sat, Sun), weekday evenings, days where you don’t have classes

·      How?: most common type of jobs amongst working students

·      Who cares: colleges/unis can better accommodate all kinds of students e.g. longer and/or earlier library hours, more classes (esp. online and satellite); more ways for students to save money,, etc.

Sample Questions

·      Why are you working and going to school?

·      Are you part or full-time student and/or worker?

·      What are you studying?

·      Where your time is mostly spent: schoolwork/job/family and friends/yourself, and why? (college clubs, social/family life)

·      How do you handle stress at work and at school?

·      How do you separate work and school?

·      Is your job in any way related to what you want to do for a career?

·      Are you on work study/financial aid? Do you have a scholarship?

·      Is your job worth it financially? Does it help with keeping your finances in order? Are you just working just because?

·      Do you think that your job affects your schoolwork at all? How?

·      Have any of the college resources/facilities been of any help to you?
